Virginia Saints Find Success at Baskerville Despite Uncooperative Weather

GLEN ALLEN, VA — The Virginia Saints had the opportunity to play softball and present Jesus Christ to the men at Baskerville Correctional Center outside of South Hill, Virginia, today. The opening game was called due to rain as the teams prepared to start the sixth inning, with the Saints leading 14-8 (by rule, a complete game). The highlight of the game was a monster home run by Chris C. over the basketball courts and distant fence in right field!
The Saints dogged the rain for a while, but when it hit, it hit hard. Though washed out on the field, the Prison Administration allowed the Saints to go into the facility's recreational room to speak to the men. By the time the team was able to set up and start, the vast majority of the crowd had departed; but thank God for the 40 men that joined the Saints in the room. Jeff L. talked about the Saints Ministry and why we play softball — to create an opportunity to share. Chris C. gave his testimony, and Tom H. offered scripture from the book of John and the Plan of Salvation.
The Saints received 27 decision cards. Twenty men were already saved and wanted to recommit their lives to Christ. Six men were not ready to become a Christian, but were interested in more information. And praises to God for one man, Tim, who accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior today!
It was a great day to interact with the men of Baskerville. The Saints have visited this facility several years in a row, and many of the men remembered our names and had been looking forward to the game and time together.
