GLEN ALLEN, VA — The Virginia Saints were in the Tidewater area at Indian Creek Correctional Center on Saturday, June 5. It was an amazingly hot and sunny day, but also an amazing opportunity to share with the men at Indian Creek. We were able to present the Good News of Jesus, His resurrection, and the Plan of Salvation to about 225 men between two different services. Cliff G. introduced the Saints Ministry, Kevin S. gave his testimony, and Tom H. brought the message. Altogether fourteen men accepted Christ as their Personal Savior. There were five men that said they were not yet ready to make a decision for Christ, and 46 men recommitted their lives to Christ.
Each of the Saints players had great stories of interactions with the men at Indian Creek. One man - W - is getting out in a few months and asked for prayer to be strong in his Christian life, to turn things around, and for his family - including his 1 1/2 year old son that he hasn't met. He also lost his mom last year. It was a distinct pleasure to bow our heads and pray right there next to the ball field with W. Please remember him in prayer. Another man - B - is scheduled to be released in December. He is excited to be out soon, and accepts that he made mistakes. However, he has viewed his time as that of opportunity. As a Christian, B recently started a Bible study for fellow inmates. In only a few weeks, his group has grown from two to eleven regular attendees. He asks for prayers for the Bible study and the men who attend it.
About 30 men joined us for the message of Good News. Cliff G. introduced the Saints Ministry and why we play prison softball. Chris C. brought his testimony and Tom H. brought the message on John 14:1-6. We had an amazing opportunity to share with the men the message of Jesus Christ, then to eat lunch (sloppy joes and tater tots!) with the men and continue the conversations about Christ. All told, 5 men received Jesus as their personal Savior.
Softball was a tale of two different "yards". The 1-2-3 side game ended with the Saints winning 42-4. The highlight of first game was an impressive triple play by the Saints! On the 4-5-6 side, the Inmate Team was much tougher and the Saints lost the first game 13-10, but rebounded to win the second game 14-4.
The Saints will next be in action on Saturday, June 19 at Coffeewood Correctional Center. Please keep the team and the ministry in your prayers.
